The world's second-largest emperor penguin colony has almost disappeared, according to a new report, raising fears about the effects of climate change on the species

The world's second-largest emperor penguin colony has almost disappeared, according to a new report, raising fears about the effects of climate change on the species.

Researchers from the British Antarctic Survey say in the report that thousands of emperor penguin chicks drowned when sea ice in Antarctica's Weddell Sea, on the edge of the Brunt Ice Shelf, was destroyed by storms in 2016. "Emperor penguins at the Halley Bay colony in the Weddell Sea have failed to raise chicks for the last three years," said Peter Fretwell, co-author of the report."The colony has now all but disappeared.

Crying shame

☹️

cmon y'all

TraceyCollins12 Well, as long as the middle and working class penguin colonies are intact. They're the real backbone of the Antarctic economy.

CNN reported last week the US is nearly drought free. Manhattan isn’t underwater, and it snowed in Chicago yesterday. Now without any conclusive evidence, the climate is killing off penguins. And you wonder why people don’t take this political manufactured crisis serious.

Sad thing!

You guys said that about polar bears- but now the population is larger than ever....hmm

Sounds like another money grab for a new study. Ask anybody who is looking for a money grant for research. They will always try to connect it to climate change.

Climate change freak's blame EVERYTHING on the whether. Just shows they know NOTHING. Next week the sand in the desert is too dry, or the water is too wet in the ocean.

And still we keep our heads in the sand!

They are adorable and multiplying every time you post this.

What time are the Kardashian’s on?

My most favourite bird. I love Penguin, walks like we do with too tiny little little legs. And protects the babies from cold by carrying them on her foot.

Isn't it amazing that every animals that these kooks say are struggling are in areas that no one can verify but every animal you can is thriving!

Leave penguins CNN, just 2 nuclear bombs wiped out human lives in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.. since then your govts are involved in millions of deaths worldwide. Korean war, Vietnam war, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen... millions has been dead and displaced in Syria. Shame

This why rag of paper called the failing NY Times! Such hypocrisy. On one hand you push global warming caused by humans. But when indigenous populations burns the land, their carbon footprint okay?

😢

They are ignoring the two sharks circling the Penguins. But sure blame global warming.
