From Middle: The National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria flanked by the National Secretary, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, and other members of the association at a press briefing on the position of the association to stem farmers-herdsmen clashes in Abuja on Sunday.

“It is worthy of note that the series of unprovoked attacks on farming communities by herders over competition of land use is one of the significant challenges the bill seeks to address. This is in view of the fact that the bill provides in part IV section 23 that ‘Any person who contravenes any provisions of this Act or regulations made hereunder shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of N50,000 or imprisonment for 5 years or both.

He recalled that the Global Terrorism Index had rated herdsmen as the fourth deadliest terrorism organisation in the world “strikingly, the National President of MACBAN Baba Ngelzarma, in an interview stated that the bill is suspicious and should not be allowed to stand because it is sponsored by a Senator from Benue State adding that the former governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom had enacted an anti-open grazing law which according to him had done harm to both pastoralists and farmers.
