Energy Exchange Of Southern Africa News

Enerweb,Headline,Johann Rupert

The Energy Exchange of Southern Africa sells affordable wind and solar power to South African businesses.

Remgro’s Ubiquity Energy appears to have had a rough six months between July and December 2023, contributing to a headline loss of R1 million compared to earnings of R2 million the prior year.Energy Exchange is a NERSA-licensed electricity trader that aggregates renewable energy supplied by independent power producers for industrial and commercial customers.

“The exchange has a pipeline of over 100MW of electricity, which will be delivered over the next year or two,” she said. As Remgro started to solve its energy security problems, another problem emerged — large and unpredictable Eskom price increases. Through the exchange, energy consumers get access to a diverse supply of reliable, cost-effective renewable energy. They can also benefit from green energy initiatives.

When energy is purchased from the Energy Exchange, the amount of electricity generated and consumed is measured in real time. The Energy Exchange of Southern Africa also has an arrangement with Eskom at an aggregated level to ensure clients do not have to pay for surplus energy.
