CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Power consumers in the province are bracing for another increase in their electric bills as the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (Ormeco) announced that it will increase its tariff rates in June.

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Power consumers in the province are bracing for another increase in their electric bills as the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative announced that it will increase its tariff rates in June.Ormeco General Manager Humphrey Dolor told The Manila Times that for residential consumers, the new rate would be P17.2917 per kilowatt-hour or an increase of P2.6297, commercial consumers , industrial consumers , public buildings , and streetlights .

Dolor said some of the reasons for the increase include continuous lower generation of renewable energy sources; 80 percent of the supply from nonrenewable energy sources; increase in the share of emergency power procurement; importation and exportation of energy to the Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative high system loss; and the inclusion of the business tax for Calapan member consumers and owners .The business tax for Calapan consumers amounts to P0.
