The new charging stations are part of a state-wide project to expand the infrastructure for electric vehicles around Alabama. The Montgomery County Commission spent about $462,000 from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs & Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama as part of the state’s Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure program.

When Governor Kay Ivey approved this program, she recognized that more electric cars were being produced across the county and, more specifically, produced by Alabama car manufacturers, and they needed access to charging facilities. So, she laid out a goal to make sure electric vehicle charging stations are located along the interstate system and other major highway arteries.
