MORE consumers will gravitate toward the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market in the future, the chief of the Energy Regulatory Commission said.At an energy forum on Wednesday titled 'Power Summit 2024, Energy and Power Security and Affordability: Moving the Economy Forward,' ERC Chairman and CEO Monalisa Dimalanta said this was because consumers were seeing the possibility of deciding which source would be best amid a constantly changing business climate.

Dimalanta added that the trend would follow the timeframe of the Retail Competition and Open Access initiative and the lowering of thresholds to allow consumers to participate in the program.'As more consumers migrate from relying on the captive market to going to the contestable market, it will lower the need for Power Supply Agreements because of the lack of customers that will need it,' Dimalanta said.
