The video was widely shared on China’s Twitter-like Weibo, with the hashtag “Tesla self-ignites” becoming one of the most-read topics on the platform, being viewed over five million times. Reuters was not immediately able to verify the origins of the video, which Weibo users said was taken in Shanghai.
The incident comes as Tesla has been trying to revive its sales in China which have been hit hard by Sino-U.S. trade tensions.

Exploding isn't the word. That's what gasmobiles do. It burst into flames. Big difference between a fire and a concussive explosion.
Strong chance that this owner hit a major road obstruction or road debris and punctured the battery. It ignited after air started to penetrate. Batteries may be less combustible than gasoline but storing the battery on the floorboard is problematic for this reason.
We know why... When fragile Li-Ion batteries fail...they release ALL their energy at once!
