The Hill Times

We are in the midst of a transformative shift from a carbon-based energy system to one rooted in renewables, and low-emission energy sources. This change—like all significant transitions—is marked by intense debate, and differing opinions on how best to proceed. As an MP from Alberta, the energy capital of North America, I am acutely aware of the voices urging respect for our oil and gas industry.

It transforms Canada from a carbon-intensive economy, where nearly 20 per cent of our GDP is derived from resource revenue, into an international powerhouse capable of competing in wind, solar, geothermal, and other renewable energy sectors. Canada is already a world leader in carbon capture technologies. It is essential that future generations see Canada not as a producer of carbon, but as a pioneer of carbon-neutral energy alternatives.
