Tesla is seeking approval from Chinese authorities to roll out its Full Self-Driving technology in the country as competition from other electric vehicle makers increases.

Before Chinese citizens can enjoy the latest version of Tesla’s FSD technology, the company must get approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Once approved, Tesla employees in the country can begin delivering and updating customer cars.Currently, Chinese Tesla customers have access to the less sophisticated versions of the company’s autopilot technology.

The launch of the latest FSD software will likely help Tesla stay competitive in what is the company’s second-largest market. Competition is sorely needed as Tesla sales have slowed significantly this year and Chinese EV makers are moving in on the company’s territory.
