The ban, spearheaded by the Scottish Greens, extends to commercial flights, all SUVs including electric ones, and cruise ships.

Edinburgh City Council has banned adverts for fossil fuel-powered cars and exotic holidays on council-owned spaces.

Additionally, the council will not entertain sponsorship partnerships with fossil fuel companies and arms manufacturers on its advertising platforms. The council emphasises the need for society to change its perception of success to meet net zero targets, highlighting the influential role of advertising in encouraging low-carbon lifestyles. The new advertising and sponsorship policy received the green light from the council's Policy and Sustainability Committee this Tuesday.
