£9m will be spent making 300 homes in Strabane, Dunmurry, Newtownards, Sion Mills, Dungannon and Antrim more energy efficient to cut bills

The Housing Executive will invest £55 million over the next year to make homes more energy efficient and cut fuel bills. It made the announcement at their annual Sustainability Symposium on Wednesday at Queen’s University Belfast.

“A range of interventions will help us achieve this, including improving energy efficiency measures through retrofitting, the introduction of low carbon heating options like air source heat pumps and the use of renewable energy for power generation and electric storage. “Thanks to this programme, 1,400 of our houses are warmer, more energy efficient and have a reduced carbon footprint.”

They are also being built using using Modern Methods of Construction and ultra-low energy building techniques.
