With Ofgem's latest announcement that energy bills are set to drop by 7%, i asks the experts whether now is the time to lock in a fixed-tarriff deal

The new price cap will see energy bills drop from £1,690 to £1,568 from July 1 for a typical dual fuel household

It sets a maximum rate per unit of energy that can be charged to customers, and will fall by 7 per cent from 1 July to 30 September, compared to current prices. “Opting for a fixed-rate tariff means you’re locking in the rates you pay for gas, electricity, and your standing charge, and these will not change over the duration of your deal, giving you peace of mind. If you’re already on a fixed deal, it’s worth remembering that you can leave up to 49 days before it ends without paying a penalty — so shop around early.

: “With prices falling in the summer, hopefully more competitive deals may become available in the coming months.
