Prime Minister Scott Morrison has likened Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's claims about the charge time of electric vehicles to former Liberal leader John Hewson's disastrous attempts to explain the GST as both sides of politics prepare for the upcoming election campaign.
Mr Morrison accused Mr Shorten of misleading voters by saying last week that "it can take, it depends what the original charge is, but it can take eight to 10 minutes" to charge an electric car.Current models replenish a battery in eight to ten hours although many electric vehicle owners charge their cars overnight, meaning that while it is being driven the battery can be recharged in a matter of minutes, rather than hours.
"Bill Shorten is declaring war on the weekend when it comes to electric vehicles," Mr Morrison said. "The price premium of electric vehicles is $23,000 more than conventionally fuelled vehicles."
