FILE - An I-15 entrance is seen in St. George, Utah, in this undated KUTV file photo The Biden-Harris Administration announced Thursday a $5.4 million grant to the Utah Department of Transportation to improve stormwater drainage along Interstate 15 in Iron and Washington counties.

The grant is part of an $830 million nationwide initiative to strengthen surface transportation systems against the impacts of climate change. The funding comes from the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-saving Transportation Discretionary Grant Program, part ofThe upgrades are designed to save taxpayers money while making roads, bridges, highways, public transportation, pedestrian facilities, ports, and intercity passenger rail more resilient.

UDOT will use the funds to make improvements along the 53-mile I-15 corridor in the state's southwesternmost counties, which will reportedly reduce the impact of extreme weather events, flash-flooding, and wildfires.
