SINGAPORE - An electric scooter that was left charging in the living room of a Hougang flat burst into flames on Friday evening , with four people in the unit fleeing for their lives.

SCDF said that the fire, which involved a personal mobility device in the living room of the seventh floor unit, was put out using a water jet. The man, who has to rely on a wheelchair or a cane due to spinal problems, said:"It happened so suddenly and I didn't have a chance to take anything with me from the flat. I crawled out of the gate to save my life."His mother, stepfather and uncle were also in the flat at the time and fled after he did.

He said that his uncle got hurt as he was trying to put out the fire by collecting water from the toilet.
