It didn’t take Alberta’s United Conservative leader long to react to the latest belch of green ideology from Toronto the Good.
Layton’s motion, limply supported by Mayor John Tory, made it to council on Thursday. City bureaucrats, already notorious for dredging up scary climate scenarios, could now spend months digging up data and massaging climate change risk into a big dollar figure. Whatever they come up with, a lawsuit doesn’t have a snowstorm’s hope in hell of going anywhere.
Let’s assume, for the moment, the accuracy of the statement that “a good chunk” of Toronto’s rising infrastructure costs are due to climate change. Let’s also assume that the following statement in Layton’s motion is accurate: “Extreme weather is already causing massive damage to Toronto-area infrastructure, homes, services and businesses. According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, the Greater Toronto Area has had “six ‘100 Year Storms’ since 2005.
Another wrinkle is the role played by Toronto and provincial politicians. They enthusiastically built the roads and bridges that accommodate all the fossil fuel consumption that has turned cities like Toronto into thriving metropolises. Politicians like to have it both ways, in this case taking credit on the one hand for building roads and highways and then blaming others when the roads are used as intended.
😱Toronto...dumps its waste in landfills via transport trucks hauling to dumps outside GTA...double dumping fees, & create taxes on TO & residents not recycling more, for multiple vehicle ownership, for dumping raw sewage into Lake Ontario, etc
Big cities should pay for garbage landfill and sewer dumping into water ways

They should certainly contribute much more for the clean ups and for the incredible consequences their reckless irresponsibility continue to reek. Instead they are capped and tax payers suffer the environmental consequences and pay for the majority of their negligence.
That massive ice jam in Labrador
They tried the same thing in Victoria. You don't mind the transfer payments.
Maybe we could sue the city if Toronto for excessive use of fossil fuels?
