The government is considering whether a coal-fired power station is needed in far-north Queensland in Collinsville. The idea was proposed by Shine Energy, which has been focussed to date on delivering reliable power systems while transitioning to a renewable future.

The company’s CEO Ashley Dodd says a recent feasibility study shows the reliability factor could necessitate a joint coal and solar approach. Mr Dodd says the project would create 2000 jobs at the peak of construction, and 600 or more ongoing, wanting a minimum of ten per cent of traditional owner workers in high value jobs.
