Green Party leader Eamon Ryan conceded that the work of the Oireachtas Climate Action Committee has hit a speed bump.
He said it happened last night after Fianna Fáil raised concerns about the proposed carbon tax hikes and the need for more to be done to address fuel poverty. Mr Ryan said he still believes an agreement can be reached but the Committee's report may be delayed by a week. The report has already missed two earlier deadlines after it was first scheduled to complete its work by the end of January.
The final report will influence the Government's approach to carbon tax increases which Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said at the weekend are "on the table" for the next budget.
A new carbon tax only hurts the poor. People in rental accommodation have no say what type of energy they use. Look what happened in France when they tried to introduce it.

This is THE only way to move forward on climate change but they shouldn’t do this without investing in more grants for homes to switch to solar and roll out a grid for surplus. This is ass-backwards.
