Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari, says Nigeria is focused on closing the energy supply gap.

According to a statement by NNPCL's spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, Kyari disclosed this in his remarks at Tuesday's Leadership Dialogue Session at the ongoing CERAWeek Conference in Houston, United States. Kyari revealed that 70 per cent of Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African countries lack access to clean cooking gas. He stated that the African sub-region must first ascertain energy security before transition.

It is clear that before the energy transition, countries must first obtain security of energy supply in their countries. 'You cannot talk about energy security when it is not even available. In most of sub-Saharan Africa, 70 per cent of the population doesn't have access to clean cooking fuels. Therefore, you must fill the supply gap first,' the GCEO stated.
