Energy bills are set to increase every three months, instead of every six months, Ofgem has confirmed. In the latest financial blow to families, the energy regulator has warned customers have a ‘very challenging winter ahead’ of them. Household bills are expected to be almost £4,000 next year.

‘Ultimately, this decision will force more people into fuel poverty in the middle of winter, causing additional stress on the NHS and it may ultimately lead to increased levels of excess winter deaths this year.
