Energy Policy,Australia,Rising Prices

Sky News host Peta Credlin discusses the challenges faced by energy policy in Australia, including rising prices and the risk of blackouts. The government's conflicting directions and legal obstacles are causing concerns.

Sky News host Peta Credlin says energy policy is now a “slow motion train wreck”, with prices skyrocketing and widespread blackouts are now a real risk. “If you suspect that your power bills are rising because government policy is pulling in different directions at the same time, you'd be dead right,” Ms Credlin said.

“First, it's reported that the New South Wales government … is in discussions with power giant Origin, to keep open the country's biggest coal-fired power station, beyond its current planned closure date of August next year. “And the second problem today is yet another example of lawfare getting in the way of development. In this case, the federal court has just placed further obstacles in the way of gas giant Santos and stopping them opening their Narrabri gas field. “Because the Native Title Tribunal supposedly failed to consider the climate impact of this project, even though gas has roughly half the emissions of coal.
