Tony Abbott, a board member of Fox Corporation, thinks his lies about climate “need to be repeated a little more” . This is extremely divisive and dangerous rhetoric coming from a man with a giant megaphone, as the stability of our democratic society rests on shared truths. A royal commission into Australia’s media is urgently required, and it needs to define new reporting standards that serve the public interest.

It’s early days for Albanese, but the signs are there. Cost of living issues, the bungled referendum, AUKUS, and next year delivering tax cuts that favour high-income earners. Hawke survived initially due to unappealing opposition leaders in Howard and Peacock. Albanese has Dutton. Eventually though, the electorate sees through the charade and turns against the incumbent irrespective of the quality of the opposition.
