Martin Lewis has shared several ways people who are struggling to pay their energy bills may be able to get financial help if they are in debt with their supplier. The consumer champion also shared some simple steps to stay warm this winter without having to turn the heating on, which may help those who are worried about higher usage during the colder months.
Martin encouraged anyone needing help with their energy bills to contact Citizens Advice, Home Energy Scotland, National Energy Action, StepChange, Age UK or Scope, but asked that people try to use web chat services to free up phonelines for those in desperate need of help. Martin said: “I worked with my team on this a year ago and I hate the fact that I asked them to do this - it is not a recommendation, but if you’re really struggling then sadly, and it’s not good for the fabric of your home - ‘heat the human, not the home’.
Martin also demonstrated how sitting with your feet off the floor can “make a difference” as floors in the household can be really cold and elevating your feet on a chair, or stool can really help.
