Coal? In 2019?! 😳🤔 Sealed brown envelopes all round, was it? 😡 Climate

What! Madness and backwards.

This must be bullshit click bait. On the basis coal is basically off most of the time but mostly because this is unfounded bullshit! Current coal utilisation is ZERO! bobbyllew tell me this is bullshit!!!

Some power stations are using ‘bio mass’ which is also a fossil fuel. Basically wood . Plus if as I have read right this coal is under the sea . Then it either has to be a drift mine or sunken shafts. My concern would be where is the coal going to be processed to produce coke?

I live in Cumbria and I am NOT happy about this at all.

They say they are 'putting jobs ahead of climate concerns'. I'm sure that future generations threatened with extinction will understand how important it was for our generation to have the extra money.

michaelgove absolute shambles. The fact this has been approved on your watch should make your position untenable. Short term gain for long term catastrophic consequences. Insanity.

Which is most sensible, during a 20 year transition from fossil fuels to renewables, is it better to continue burning FF but in ever decreasing amounts or stop suddenly and instead cut down the current absorbers of CO2 (trees) and burn them all instead?

Cumbria keeping up to date with the times. Give or take 70 years.

This is disappointing, we risk ending up like Germany.

What type of coal is it? The climate issue is valid, but the coal may be necessary for steel production or house fuel. People’s livelihoods are also important. Plus, what is the useful solar potential in Cumbria? U.K. is currently running at 25% of total potential

Oh good. Can't wait for Labour's gammon wing to ooze out of the woodwork to bore us all with more bollocks about miners strikes.

WTF

Remind me how many other operational coal mines we have in the UK at the moment?

I wonder if those councilors get their kick backs in little brown envelopes
