It's no secret that we love a bakery in this part of the world. From treasured shops selling pies in Wigan and pasties in Bolton, to the purveyors of Manchester tarts and Eccles cakes, we're spoilt for choice in Greater Manchester.
I picked up a range of items to share with my fellow journalists at M.E.N. HQ on Thursday lunchtime . For the savoury goods, I picked up three sausage rolls, one potato and meat pie, one steak and Guinness pie and one chicken and mushroom pie. Next on the menu were the pies, and I went straight for the potato and meat. The filling was a bit drier than I'd like and wasn't the most flavoursome pie I'd had, but the pastry was nice.
I'm not exaggerating when I say it was, hands down, the best chicken and mushroom pie I've ever had. Chicken and mushroom can often be pretty bland - and there's probably a reason it was the last savoury waiting to be eaten at M.E.N. towers.
