Can Peter Dutton please provide details of the claimed negative effects on whale populations and other wildlife? While the Coalition likes the principle of small modular nuclear reactors, as a supposed “alternative”, its development is yet to reach fruition.

In these Trump-tainted times, where fair can be foul and foul can be fair, it is possible, though unlikely, that Dutton can ride the “ill wind to power”. If a reticent Albanese is not to become Dutton’s punching bag he might, for once, try explaining how his government will implement policies on wind farms, renewables and the like.Peter Hartcher recalls Tony Abbott’s destructive political rhetoric.

The ALP made a minor attempt to address the latter at the 2019 election and we all know how that ended. What presents a glimmer of hope is that people will become energised enough about the need for improvement in an ever-increasing range of government services that the solution will become acceptable.

Sorry to be divisive and uncompromising, but as you sit by the pool on the sun lounge of life, how about sparing a thought for those whose day-to-day lives are not so perfect? Better still, do something about it.If only the Coalition were about the populace being relaxed and comfortable. It’s usually the spreading of fear. Fear of boats, fear of Indigenous land grabs, fear of renewables and fear of electric cars. Just fear.
