Doctors hailed the operation last Friday a success and his heart beat has returned to some normality.

The former self confessed suspect in the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder said he is "relieved" at the outcome because he was quickly running out of options caused by his deteriorating heart condition.

He said; "My heart was beating at 122 a minute and as a result of the electric shock treatment it is now down to half of that. The procedure was like switching your heart off and then switching it on again. He added; " I am really thankful to the staff here for looking after me over the past two weeks. I am looking forward to getting home and to continuing my recovery."

A French court found him guilty of the murder in absentia in 2019 and sentenced him to 25 years jail. The Irish courts have refused to extradite him because most of the so-called evidence was based on hearsay and would never have been admissible in an Irish court of law.Detectives are hoping new DNA equipment will help them catch the killer.
