The labor union urged lawmakers supporting the plan to include labor in conversations related to climate change.

By Colby Itkowitz and Colby Itkowitz Congress, campaigns, health policy, Pennsylvania politics Email Bio Follow Dino Grandino March 12 at 3:45 PM The AFL-CIO, the national arm for U.S. labor unions, offered a critical assessment of the Green New Deal, warning that the ambitious plan to combat climate change could adversely affect U.S. workers.

The proposal would make sweeping changes and expand the government’s reach into the economy, and it almost certainly would require tax increases or large-scale deficit spending. It entered the national conversation when Ocasio-Cortez adopted it as her calling card. The proposal marries climate change and income inequality as one all-encompassing issue. But the AFL-CIO throwing water on the plan complicates matters for Democrats who rely on labor support.

President Trump has repeatedly questioned the scientific consensus that global warming is occurring. Just Tuesday morning, Trump tweeted a quote from “Fox and Friends,” where a guest said: “The whole climate crisis is not only Fake News, it’s Fake Science. There is no climate crisis, there’s weather and climate all around the world, and in fact carbon dioxide is the main building block of all life.

“Look, we need to address the environment. We need to do it quickly,” he said. “But we need to do it in a way that doesn’t put these communities behind, and leave segments of the economy behind. So we’ll be working to make sure that we do two things: That by fixing one thing we don’t create a problem somewhere else.”

Robert Hockett, a law professor at Cornell who advised Ocasio-Cortez on the Green New Deal, argued the apprehension is misplaced since new environmental protections can lead to job growth elsewhere.

Imagine the harm to billions, with a 'b' if we do nothing.

When the U.S. only emits 14% of the world c02 and you want to spend trillion$ on the Green New Deal, does not make sense! 😬 There is no guarantee that China, Russia, and all other countries will get on board!

Also now that we know, AOC won an actor/candidate audition by a socialist PAC & the founder of that PAC, including her COS, all over internet talking about Green New Deal months before she 'came up with the idea'

This is why we need the Green New Deal

AFLCIO sucks.

I bet, if you go back on their tl, these same people were the ones who were pissed off at the carbon tax because they said it was a burden on the working class.

LOLing at rose Twitter's butthurt reaction. Trust fund cosplay socialists BTFO.

AFL-CIO is all neoliberal shills!

Well there isn't a choice...present one or deal with it, because we can't SURVIVE if we do nothing.

Unions need progressives, progressives need unions. Both sides understand this. This letter is merely a way for unions to throw their weight around in order to guarantee a seat at the table. There is a mutual desire to achieve mutual gains. Don't blow this out of proportion.

Sounds like a lot of the companies that say they couldn’t possibly unionize

Or thought up by anyone with intelligence

Uh oh.... If I have it right, Unions are workers that come together for the common good.... The Green New Deal is bad Or the AFL-CIO doesn’t want to contribute to making the proposal better People/factions say unions are bad....Do we chuck them too

Come on unions! You are acting old and very stale. Instead of blocking ideas that just might allow OACs generation to still breathe in old age, offer some help and solutions that would include your members getting new training in new technology. Grumpy old men!

Because it doesn’t include nuclear power, or for a bullshit reason?

Anyone willing to tear down the Green New Deal should have a competing plan to get us to 50% carbon emissions by 2030.

Yeah, how dare the richest country in the world think it can support it's own citizens while spending half it's budget on war and bureaucracy. Not to mention all of the fat going to the top few.

And they're right.

When you've lost the Union...

Takes a pair of eyes to see/realize that. Not exactly a crazy conclusion.

'stopping the moon-sized asteroid barreling toward Earth is just way too expensive'

They keep using that phrase. I don’t think it means what they think it means.

They think it was created by a twit as well

Ok let’s just fall into the sea I guess

We will put a man on the moon by the end of this decade....

This is sooooo stupid.
