SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 17, 2023] | SaltWireBefore Marc Savard committed to a second stint in Calgary, this time as an assistant on Ryan Huska’s bench staff, he was adamant about one thing.

“It was just such a grind and I think a lot of that might have been similar to the situation these guys were in here last year,” said Savard, referring to the horror stories about the sour mood around the Saddledome during the 2022-23 campaign. “You know, just a grind coming to the rink. I was there mentally and it’s not fun. I’ve been on both sides, so I know how these guys feel.”

The Flames are off to a so-so start in the standings after winning one, losing one in regulation and settling Monday for a single point, but they were understandably feeling good about their work in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Capitals in Washington, with Huska saying in his post-game presser: “The way we played tonight is the way we’d like to continue to play.”
