'I can't think of any good reason why energy firms would take this course of action'

British Gas has made another payment method change affecting thousands of customers – which has been labelled as "deeply unfair" by some. British Gas has made it harder for customers to settle their bill by bank transfer, according to reports. Birmingham Live reports old British Gas bills used to contain the supplier's bank account details.

"I can't think of any good reason why energy firms would take this course of action other than to make it much harder for people to maintain control over their own abilities to pay their bills." A British Gas spokesperson told the Sun: "The vast majority of our customers pay their bills successfully by direct debit, card or cheque.
