approach to the design and execution of a Class 8 truck. From the design and execution of its exterior and interior, to the layout of its three electric motors, it's like nothing else on the Interstates.both beat Tesla to the punch. Tesla hasn't let slip too much detail yet on the Semi, which engineering manager Dan Priestly says is still being built in"pilot volume", with about 70 completed so far, but its performance and range look to be superior to both.
The new eActros 600 has three lithium-ion phosphate battery packs with a total installed capacity of 621 kWh and a useable capacity of 590 kWh, and Daimler says they provides enough energy to enable to drive this European-spec truck 310 miles. That means the e600's energy consumption rate is not far off the Tesla Semi's, at 1.9kW per mile.
While the Tesla Semi has three electric motors believed to produce a total of just over 1000 horsepower, the eActros 600 has two motors running on an 800 V electrical architecture that produce a continuous output of 536 hp, and a peak output of 805 hp, and drive through a four-speed transmission. The Tesla Semi has no adjustable regen; Actros e600 drivers can choose from five different regen levels, and one-pedal driving can be optionally accessed via a touch screen.
