Lisa Murkowski and Joe Manchin write for PostOpinions: It’s time to act on climate change — responsibly

By Lisa Murkowski and Joe Manchin March 8 at 4:01 PM Lisa Murkowski, a Republican, represents Alaska in the U.S. Senate. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, represents West Virginia in the U.S. Senate.

There is no question that climate change is real or that human activities are driving much of it. We are seeing the impacts in our home states. Scientists tell us that the Arctic is warming at twice the rate of the rest of the world. Rising temperatures and diminishing sea ice on Alaska’s shores are affecting our fisheries and forcing some remote communities to seek partial or total relocation.

On the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, we are working together to find pragmatic policies that can draw strong and enduring support. In our hearings this year, we have heard from a range of experts who are helping us to gather facts that shape these efforts. Yet, our witnesses also agreed that to effectively mitigate the impacts of climate change, we must do more to pursue low- and zero-carbon technologies that will continue to lower emissions.

PostOpinions climate change started when a few scientist wanted to study the changes in weather...well you two, have to realize , its from humans... dumping garabage in lakes, rivers, oceans, should stop. recycle everything we make. cant recycly it , dont produce it!! great start.

PostOpinions What, JoeManchinWV ? The same guy that trampled on women in order to keep his taxpayer funded paycheck? Kavanaugh NeverForget

PostOpinions This is the most useless announcement I have ever read. At no point does the lisamurkowski explain how she reconciles her belief that Climate Change is real and manmade and her sacrificing the Arctic Refuge to more fossil fuel extraction. ClimateCrisis GOPHypocrisy

PostOpinions You would be wise to leave AOC out of the conversation and address climate change without socialistic remedies..

PostOpinions A good start will be not Bulling Countries with oil and invest in energy technologies.

PostOpinions I'll believe it when I see it lisamurkowski Sen_JoeManchin

PostOpinions .lisamurkowski conspired with RyanZinke to allow drilling & killing in the ArticNationalWildlifeRefuge. Her views re: ClimateChange are useless to anyone but the oily corporate comrades whose palms she greases. NoDrilling ANWR NationalParks SaturdayMotivation Climate

PostOpinions lisamurkowski JoeManchinWV Thanks for talking climate action, but the time to mosey on over to clean energy was 40 yrs ago. The 'mosey' window has snapped shut. We need to PriceCarbon ASAP. A policy exists in the House: the Energy Innovation Act (H.R. 763) Your thoughts pls?

PostOpinions Two 'Dudley Do-Nothings' who are bought and paid for by far-right wallets. Lisa sold out protected land, and Joe quit the football team while he was in college, and will quit at anytime. Once a quitter; always a quitter.

PostOpinions Climate change is driven by large corporations which produce massive pollution and force the rest of us to live in a framework designed to exclude sustainable practices. If you want to fight climate change, eat the rich.

PostOpinions lisamurkowski A good start would be abandoning oil drilling in the Artic National Wildlife Refugee, America's last pristine wilderness enviornment, where wildlife and diversity lives. You lobbied and won the right for the oil companies to destroy it.

PostOpinions Hi JoeManchinWV, do you care about fracking the crap out of people in WV to the point that their dogs are howling for two years? ⬇️

PostOpinions Wow the cavalry has arrived 🙄

PostOpinions BarackObama was actually helping the US to do something! The complicit GOP have allowed POTUS & his disgraceful appointments to the EPA & the Interior ‘s to deregulate-they are destroying all positive changes. Support of coal is irresponsible!

PostOpinions Its irresponsible to claim that current corporate profits (for Manchin & Murkowski's political donors) are as important as making sure we leave a survivable world for our children.

PostOpinions Excuse me but responsibly would be to have a president who isn't a denier! He is starting a task force to prove there is NO CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUE! You are preaching to the wrong choir Lisa and Joe!

PostOpinions Offering their “thoughts and prayers”-solution for the challenges of climate change. If only representatives from Alaska and West Virginia like lisamurkowski and Sen_JoeManchin could wean their economies from their dependence on fossil fuel production instead of being useless.

PostOpinions If we only had a Senate, insiof a 🐢 box !

PostOpinions The United States is one of the cleanest in the world. But we can stop the 3,000 murders of Americans by abortion everyday

PostOpinions I live in Alaska Lisa Murkowski is my senator - and she doesn’t give a sh*t about climate change I know this as I asked her in 2016 if she would support climate change legislation if Hillary won the presidency She walked away and an aide threatened to have me arrested

PostOpinions No mention of truly renewable options/technologies ready in this country & growing, but not nearly as fast as they could. “Reasonable” is an energy cop out & shows a lack of real precovery planning for citizens, even as you admit the direct effect. lisamurkowski Sen_JoeManchin

PostOpinions Bezos can begin by giving up his private jets.

PostOpinions We can't even control tomorrow's weather, so how, exactly, can we control climate years from now?

PostOpinions Only libs, leftists, socialists, US-haters, and communists buy into the global warming fraud. Americans don't. Why is that?

PostOpinions It’s not time to act. The time to act was a long time ago. It’s time to catch up, and we’re way behind.

blackrepublican PostOpinions How should we 'act' on a theory?

PostOpinions Vice President had a speech on this issue, with a issue regarding scientists who made remarks on Global warming that were false..

PostOpinions It’s just not enough anymore to say “we’re holding hearings and we’re gonna have policies,”. They proposed nothing. This op-Ed is a nothing burger.

PostOpinions Hey Lisa. Why don't you open up Anwar for drilling. That should help. Oh yeah you already did. And Joe, don't you love coal?I mean c'mon now. You both need to walk the walk before trying to lead on something you haven't given ANY attention to legislatively.

PostOpinions Climate change is a corrupt govt Money making HOAX! IT'S A FRIGGIN HOAX!!

PostOpinions It was time to act on climate change responsibly in 2000 tbh

PostOpinions Varios jefes de estado del mundo parece ser que quieren ser protagonistas de las películas ya hechas sobre las repercusiones del cambio climático. La realidad supera a la ficción.

PostOpinions Responsibly, so pretend like you are doing something substantial when it’s all lip service. Seems about right for Joe Manchin.

PostOpinions No

PostOpinions Translation. Do nothing.

PostOpinions It's too late for Alaska

PostOpinions Finally

PostOpinions Responsibly, as in let dirty energy run its course and do nothing!

PostOpinions What steps did and Postopinions take to reduce their footprint this year? Nothing is my guess.......

PostOpinions “Responsibly” actually means “without disrupting our states’ fossil fuel industries. As the youths say, this ain’t it.

PostOpinions If you want to institute a carbon tax as a method of deficit reduction I’m all ears. But nobody believes reducing manmade carbon is going to significantly slow climate change. If you’re going to light money on fire it may as well go to balance the budget.

PostOpinions Anthropogenic Global Warming, not climate change. Climate is always changing. We've been warming for over 20,000 years since the the Pleistocene epoch and glacial period.

PostOpinions Unfortunately some politicians and people we'll be like king canute, trying to turn back the tide, and will still say there is no global warming, even when they get their feet wet 😔.

PostOpinions Glad you qualified that with “responsibly” which what I can only imagine means passing a congress-wide resolution that says “the climate changes be responsible” and that’s about it
