A prolific thief who assaulted a man as well as stealing vapes worth more than £4,200 and a woman's electric scooter will be sentenced at crown court.

Macauley Smout, aged 27, targeted Esso in Harlescott Lane, Shrewsbury, nine times in less than three weeks in a spate of thefts throughout July, August and September this year.

He stole vapes on eight of those occasions, and Fairy Liquid, washing powder, coffee and sweets worth £57 on the other. He also stole a woman's black Xiaomi M365 scooter worth £400 in Shrewsbury on July 8, and £77 of meat from Lidl in Whitchurch Road, Harlescott on September 18. Smout, of no fixed abode, also assaulted a man in Shrewsbury on September 13. He pleaded guilty at Kidderminster Magistrates Court to 11 counts of theft, one of common assault and three breaches of a criminal behaviour order. Two of those were due to aggressive behaviour, and the other was for entering an area he was banned from.
