A leading professor claims one type of fruit could help to ward off dementia. Thousand of people in the UK live with the degenerative condition and several studies have been undertaken to determine foods that could increase the risk of dementia if eaten in high volumes.
The fruit contains high levels of micronutrients and antioxidants dubbed anthocyanins which give blueberries their namesake colour - but also protect them from radiation exposure and infections and could also stave off dementia. Professor Krikorian added: "These same properties that help blueberries survive also provide benefits to humans, such as reducing inflammation, improving metabolic function and enhancing energy production within cells.
