She is a close ally of Mr Sunak, having served as his Parliamentary Private Secretary when he was Chancellor andMs Coutinho resigned her PPS role alongside Craig Williams, Mr Sunak’s other PPS at the time, in protest at Boris Johnson continuing to remain as prime minister.
The daughter of a GP and an anaesthetist, she studied Mathematics and Philosophy at Oxford before working at the investment bank Merrill Lynch for four years. She went on to work at the Centre for Social Justice, which was founded by former Conservative leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith. Ms Coutinho later joined KPMG as a Corporate Responsibility Manager, a role which involves promoting social and environmental concerns in business operations.
She was also a special adviser to the Treasury and was an aide to Rishi Sunak before she entered Parliament.in 2012, which included Nigella Lawson as a judge, and co-founded a literary-themed supper club called The Novel Diner.
