Pakistan has decided to purchase more electricity from Iran, as announced by the finance ministry. This decision was made during an Economic Coordination Committee meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. Pakistan, which is facing an energy crisis, already has contracts to buy electricity from Iran for its border regions and development projects in Gwadar port. The decision to increase electricity imports from Iran comes after a recent visit by the Iranian foreign minister to Islamabad.

Energy-starved Pakistan already has contracts to purchase electricity from Tehran for its border regions, especially for China-backed development projects on Gwadar port.The finance ministry did not give details of the quantity or terms and conditions of the new purchase.
