A popular compact electric vehicle - previously a global record-holder - has been recalled for a dangerous mechanical defect that is causing 'unintentional acceleration' while driving.

A previous global all-time top selling electric vehicle is being recalled urgently over a serious software defect that could result in"unintentional" acceleration of the car.

A recall notice by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts stated more than 1,700 Nissan LEAF units made between 2018 and 2023 were found to be defective. More than 1,700 units manufactured between 2018 and 2023 are affected. Picture: DITRDCA “Due to a software issue, the Cruise Control function may not operate as intended and could cause unintentional acceleration when deactivated,” the notice reads.
