Corals can recover from bleaching if the sea temperature drops quickly enough, which fortunately saved most of the corals from death in last year’s bleaching. “I certainly wouldn’t be making any weather forecasts in July for what’s going to happen in February and March, which is the peak period of risk for coral bleaching,” Wachenfeld said.
