Britain will need to quadruple its decarbonisation efforts to hit its climate targets, the Government’s own advisers have said as they warned the nation had given up its leading global role CapurrodDaniel reports

The warning followed the publication of the CCC’s annual progress report, which assesses government plans. The CCC was created by the 2008 Climate Change Act and is an independent body.

There were several reasons behind the rise in risk, said Mr Stark, but chief among them was a decision by ministers not to focus on reducing demand for car travel. As well as its broader criticisms, the CCC found that Government action was lacking or inadequate in a number of areas.
