The federal government has rolled out a new strategy aimed at preparing the country for a changing climate, setting goals and targets to blunt the impact of more extreme weather events and other climate-induced challenges. Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault introduced the government’s National Adaptation Strategy at an event Tuesday in Vancouver, flanked by cabinet colleagues and provincial and Indigenous leaders.

He pointed to the wildfires raging across Canada this spring as proof of the need to take concrete steps to prepare communities for climate change, hailing the strategy as a “whole of society” plan that will address everything from health challenges to economic disruptions.
