Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning for people to check their energy meters ahead of a major price change.
The money-saving expert reminded his followers on social media that many people across the country should do a new meter reading ahead of the changes to the energy price cap. However, people using smart or prepayment meters will not be required to do a reading. Meanwhile, people who pay their energy bill via direct debit are being urged to do a reading within a few days of the changes to the energy price cap to potentially reduce how much they could be pay going forward. One way of also securing a cheaper energy bill is by taking a picture of your meter which you can show to your supplier.
"Pay by direct debit? Submit a reading. With monthly direct debit, firms estimate your usage, and assign it to a certain period, so submitting a reading within a few days of the change reduces the risk of their 'estimating' going against you . Take a pic of the meter for belt 'n' braces.
