Berlin is seeking new energy sources after Russia cut off its gas supply in retaliation for supporting Kyiv in the war. LAVO is playing a role.

Just two years after it set up an office in Germany, the green hydrogen company is part of a push by Europe’s biggest economy to replace Russian energy with renewable sources and to curb CO2 emissions.

Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy sources, might still have some way to go before it becomes fully commercial. “The focus is now on developing critical infrastructure and back-up systems,” said Mr Clavien. He said interest in green energy solutions is such that rival companies are now collaborating. “Imagine Pepsi and Coke working together,” he said.This all comes amid a push by Berlin and Canberra to deepen German-Australian energy co-operation.

Under the strategy, big energy-intensive carbon emitters such as the steel, cement, paper or glass companies would be compensated through subsidises for switching to climate-friendly production over a 15-year-period, while at the same time encouraging new technologies.
