South African Govt to Open Bid Window to Procure Additional Renewable Energy: SouthAfrica

Mantashe, who was delivering his Budget Vote speech for the 2023/24 financial year, said Bid Windows 7 and 8 will each give 5 000 megawatts of renewable energy.

In addition, according to Mantashe, a request for proposals for the procurement of gas-to-power, totalling 3 000MW, will be issued in the second quarter. The Integrated Resource Plan 2019 - the country's blueprint policy for electricity generation - is currently under review. Meanwhile, in line with the reform of the electricity sector called for by the President, Mantashe announced that his department has amended the Electricity Regulation Act to enable the creation of the transmission systems operator .
