Electric vehicles accounted for 17 per cent of all new vehicles licensed in the State so far this year, according to CSO figures

Despite long-standing concerns over the availability of public charging infrastructure, the Government hopes to double EV sales this year as part of a wider plan to phase out fossil fuel-powered vehicles altogether.

The latest CSO figures indicate that overall the number of new cars licensed in the Republic in the first four months was 57,130. The number of used cars licensed in the first four months of 2023 rose by 5 per cent compared with the same period in 2022 .
