'Energy providers can’t claim all the power they provide is renewable since only 30-40 per cent of Ireland’s electricity comes from renewables.'

A senator has complained to the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland about “100% renewable energy” claims by two more electricity providers.It follows her case against Energia, when the ASAI ruled they were “misleading” customers by saying they could provide “100 per cent green energy to your home” and banned electric firms from making such claims.Energy providers can’t claim all the power they provide is renewable since only 30-40 per cent of Ireland’s electricity comes from renewables.

She also complained about SSE Airtricity’s “This is Generation Green” advertising online and on television. “Pinergy and SEE Airtricity both claimed to be selling electricity that is more sustainable than it really is – a textbook example of greenwashing.
