The non-binding referendum was called as complaints continued to grow over the use of e-scooters and after three deaths were attributed to them in Paris last year.

People in Paris have voted"overwhelmingly" to ban rental electric scooters from the French capital's streets in a poll which officials have said they will implement.

Three deaths and 459 injuries were attributed to e-scooters in Paris last year, compared to one fatality and 353 injuries in 2021."becomes our roadmap" and promised to bring in the ban. As complaints increased over the way the scooters were being deployed, officials cut the number of operators to three in 2020.The city's 15,000-strong fleet of rental e-scooters are provided by Tier, Lime and Dott.

Designated scooter parking areas were also imposed as part of the contracts, which will run until September.

Is SadiqKhan listening and learning, officials that listen to what their people tell them ?

Good. Many of us are fedup of them being ridden on paths at high speed, fedup of being yelled at to get out of their way. Pity the UK wont get rid of them.

Another up yours to a Government. alanvibe juneslater17

This is a democratic failure. E-scooters are a convenient and innovative mode of transport that can reduce congestion and pollution. The mayor of Paris should listen to the suggestions of e-scooter operators, rather than blindly obeying the opinions of a minority

So the amount of them on the streets of Paris will double then! They're illegal on UK roads....but metpoliceuk do nothing to take them off streets! Fits really as they're totally bent!

Now let us have the same vote UK

/ Yet an Vehicle Ban due to World Warming +Pollution of Air ! In Paris would sure be filled with those Banned Now Stand up Batterie Powered Scooters !!!

Misuse of these ann. 'bar to bar vihicles' is from the rental marked. These are irresistible for some to have fun with and abuse on pavements and streets. But don't ban the practical & foldable privat ones, who is skillfully, daily used & cared for instead of cars by commuters

“…have voted to ban RENTAL electric scooters from the French capital's streets.”

Please change your headline Sky News. Its RENTAL eScooters, not all eScooters.

The scooters are a great idea. The abuse of the scooters isn't. 2 a breast. Going the wrong way down one way streets. Red light dodging. Riding on pavements. Drink and drug riding. Under age riding. Using mobile phones. Etc. Clamp down 100% on these things and they can work.

I've no problems with electric scooters, but what does concern me is kids and young adults using them on the roads.

The only reason Paris 'voted' to ban is that scooter users didnt bother voting. The vote was tilted to the sceptics

They're banned from most places in the UK, it doesn't stop them being used.

Hopefully London next

Can't have people saving the so called planet 🤣🤣🤣

And who said the French were stupid garlic munchers …. ?

Dangerous, kids using them on pavements nearly got hit the other day 😬

Can't say I blame them after the number of near misses I've had with the damn things.

A lot of them were used during the recent Parisian chaos. 🤔

This is your main news coming out from Paris? 😂🤦‍♂️

Pointless. If we are aiming to reduce are carbon footprint, then this is the way forward. Congestion is the worst it's ever been. Interestingly, the UK 🇬🇧 only contribution 2% to the overall pollution.

I doubt London will follow

Not surprised. The way people are using them is totally dangerous. Response ability and training before using would have been the better way of starting something like this. 🧐

Now need to do the same in London , including all the illegal ones that are in use

Let's hope Milton Keynes England will be next. Bloody death traps.

It's interesting how many outlets are studiously avoiding mentioning that turnout was less than 8%
