The government is abolishing Vat on solar panels in a move which will reduce the typical cost for homeowners by €1,000.

The 23 per cent VAT rate will be cut to zero following the EU’s decision last year to allow member states to do this to encourage the growth of renewable energy.

Wont be passed on...

Temporary only 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Solar panels will just increase by €1,000 overnight; nothing is ever passed on to the end user or consumer in Ireland

Is there still VAT on the cost of installation?

Funny all the social houses across from me got it for free, I work all my life and own my home and I get a VAT cut, Should be taken out of PRSI contributions

I bet it doesn’t. As people in the hospitality industry were saying when the VAT was to be reduced, “we can’t afford to reduce prices by 4%”. The VAT is seen to be their profit.

The Green fantasy bleats again. Suppliers will use the VAT reduction to absorb some of the cost increases they've faced because of COVID-19 and Putin's War. If anything costs to the consumer will still increase. rtenews IrishTimes Independent_ie irishexaminer thejournal_ie

till the sellers put the price up so they get the grant and full price from the public.

You dont get it, to use solar panels/heating pumps passive heating/green you must use as support a proper building, a construction that can support all these. The empty walls ready to fall houses produced by irish builders last 20-30 years are just good to be demolished

Solar panel cost is only a small portion of overall cost of an installation. Is VAT exemption being extended to other equipment (e.g inverter, brackets, diverter) and labour also?

Nice one ...when so many won't have roofs to put them on 🙄🙄

Cobblers

Why not make them compulsory, every where?

Not enough carrot. Total cost of installing solar panels should be income tax deductible.

Was this not a EU directive from last September 2022?

Vulture funds will be happy

What about the import duties of chinese solar panels? If it wasnt for this then solar would be extremely cheap

So now we just need €4000

Is there no grant for people doing a self build. You got to be in the house for 10 years to qualify for it solar grant

Increase profits by 1000

Homeless solar panel option

More middle class subsidies. The govt. should be installing them free on all social housing, then offering 100% grants to lower income families, working their way up the income ladder.

Removing vat on solar panels is just another 'CLASS BIAS' move for those that can afford to buy them. Low income taxpayers subsidising the better off again. Par for the course.

Great initiative. 👏 Solar should be compulsory on all new builds.

You'd have to ask the question, why was there VAT on them in the first place?

Providers will put the price up - age old problem.
