In WA, you can feed in more than 10 times as much power to the grid as you draw, and still end up with a bill. So how can households get more value from the energy they produce?

"Previously, [energy] was a box on the wall that some person came and read once a quarter, you turned the switch on, the lights came on, and you didn't have to worry about it, everything was taken care of," Mr Maywood said.

"People who have EVs are early adopters, they're your rooftop solar people from 20 years ago, so you really want to try to encourage them and remove barriers for them to use batteries in the vehicle to leapfrog home batteries," he said."An EV battery size is typically five times that of a home battery.

"That, to me is very unfair, but it's also not good engineering, it is not getting near the solution.

Instead of funding huge solar farms the government should help fund individual premises self sufficiency and workforce to maintain them. If something goes wrong you call your solar person like you would a plumber, sparky, etc.

A government with guts to take on the free loading energy operators.

It's just so dumb!!! In the old days (maybe still now?) you'd have discounts for using power off peak between 11pm and 5am. Why not discount power between 9am-3pm and encourage people to use power when the sun is shining?

If you have solar anyway then using a time of use tariff and a battery pays for itself within the lifetime of the battery, so it's a no-brainer.

Almost as if renewables aren’t cheaper once you remove subsidies and tariffs….

Time to install a battery

As a taxpayer, can I just say sorry to those I no longer pay for their cheap electricity. However, look on the bright side. At least you are saving the planet! Hooray!

Imagine what would happen if everyone turned their solar off for one day as protest....

Stop whining, you're still paying a lot less than you would be without your rooftop solar

Why do energy retailers get to tell us what they’re going to pay us for power produce with our own infrastructure? It’s anti-free market. We should be able to split our feed-in customer and energy retailer, creating a market where “retailer clients” bid for our cheap solar power.

What ABC you said solar will also be cheaper and good for the environment. So you lied again. Defund the ABC

So good that we are going so green to weaponise power as during winter only those that can afford generators will have power. With promotion of EV’s and less sun during winter and none at night along with less wind when they all need to be charged we will have mass blackouts
