The federal government has secured the support it needs to implement its central climate change commitment, after securing a deal with the Greens after months of safeguard mechanism negotiations.

The Greens have long demanded Labor commit to no new coal and gas projects, but the government has repeatedly ruled this out.

He predicted the hard emissions cap would make it unviable for 116 new coal and gas projects in the pipeline because they would be unable to get their emissions below the limit.

No big surprise, Australians are fast asleep at the wheel.

Safeguard credits could be sold to polluters who have not made enough cuts and need to account for their extra emissions, so just carbon credit trading under a different name

Safeguard mechanism agreement? It sounds great for slowing Australia's carbon footprint but fossil fuels are still needed for the green transition. Gas being slightly cleaner than coal..drop ALL new coal projects

They are about to bankrupt the country and most of the population

Great, the grubs that are the Greens have done a deal with the grubs that are Labor to once again screw the Australian people!

How?

No surprise AdamBandt rolled over on Safeguard Mechanism , Albo has played him & Dutton very well in a poker game on a number of issues recently If Adam Bandt was playing scrabble he is the sort of person that uses his blank tiles to make 2 letter words worth 2 points auspol

Didn't think Labor could do much more to raise power and gas prices. Unfortunately I was wrong

Anyone in these industries who voted for Labor were turkeys voting for Christmas.

Who pays for large corporations reducing their emissions by 4.9%. Have a wild guess

The meeting about how they can all lie to us and cover themselves gas taken place

kek the very definition of soiboi beard n' everything 4chan was right /pol/

Labor wants to provide extra support for those strategic manufacturing industries Aluminium is a money loser We should allow it to move offshore

And here's the EU reclassifying gas as a clean fuel and Germany contracting to build 30 new gas fired electricity plants. Keep up, Adam.

Fmd

How much would this agreement cost or what exactly do the Greens get for agreeing Always back room deals being done - lack of transparency, integrity and honesty!!

Whos arse did they shag?

Bland Bandt - talked big buùuut ends up selling-out like all the flipperty-flopperty mediocrities before him - how luminously predictable lol

Will 'Climate Collapse' be the new mantra now Trust Adam Ant to blurt that one out.

So much for albo putting the Australian people first

Well done Bowenchris AlboMP

CO2 is greening Earth, CO2 has never been shown to drive climate .. stop the madness

Finally the Greens have realised their historical mistakes and have met with Labor and agreed on a sensible centrist approach. At last they have repented for the CPRS. 😌

LOL, again proving how pointless minor parties & independents are. They wanted no new fossil fuel mining projects, and here we are. We could have been in the same position if they had supported the previous govt. But now all we have is targets that no country has met in 20 yrs.

Fken Greens 'we have stopped halve (of the new coal) projects' You haven't stopped shit! It's not your legislation Love the way they duck responsibility but claim victory

Is this all the info we get? 43% reduction target? Who are they? Whats the penalties? And will this cost be passed on to the consumer?

These guys know how to destroy an economy and are showing no signs of slowing down... Most just want to have the lights kept on.

Bloody brilliant!

What’s the detail on this agreement…

Has Jacquie Lambie ever negotiated an agreement that wasn’t an absolute capitulation?

Bandt needs to resign. There’s no excuse for this betrayal.
