Resources Minister Madeleine King says extending Bass Strait is the east coast energy market’s ‘best possibility’, raising the onus on Victoria to act.

Pressure is growing on the Victorian and NSW governments to boost sources of gas to the east coast energy market after Resources Minister Madeleine King highlighted that dwindling Bass Strait production was a key cause of looming shortages.warned businesses and households could face shortfalls as soon as this winter and more regularly from 2027 onwards, Ms King pointedly said she had been working with the Victorian government to extend the state’s existing resources.

Ms King’s focus on Victoria was given added weight late on Thursday by Queensland Resources Minister Scott Stewart, who said the state continues to do the “heavy lifting on domestic gas”, having released 80,000 square kilometres for gas exploration, with a third earmarked for domestic consumption.AEMO’s supply concerns have firmly put the onus on NSW and Victoria to address their domestic supply contributions, Mr Stewart suggested.

Mr Bowen said 96 per cent of gas was sold for less than $12 before 2022 – “a price at which you could make a perfectly reasonable return”.

Sounds like scare-mongering by the gas industry to get more carbon into the atmosphere. The floods have abated and now the bushfires will start yet they keep finding new ways to lie, cheat and make money destroying the environment. Shameful.
